I recently took my boat’s teak down to bare wood and began the process of applying Cetol Marine Light, to be followed later by Cetol gloss. After the first coat of Marine Light everything looked as expected and the wood had the usual colored shine. I applied the second coat about a week later (rainy weather in between) on a semi-cloudy afternoon when the temperature was 58. Before applying, I sanded the first coat lightly with a Scotch Bright pad and removed any residue with mineral spirits. I waited about 30 minutes until the surface looked dry again and applied the second coat. Upon return the next day I noticed that much of the finish now appeared dull and chalky, almost as if I had used a brownish paint for the second coat. It seemed as if the part I did initially was shinier than the part I did last, although all the work was completed in a 2 -3 hour window. There was no rain during the intervening period and nearby live-aboards at the marina indicated there was no overnight fog. Overnight temperatures fell to about 52 at the lowest.

Question #1 is what are the most likely reasons for this unusual outcome. Question #2 is what I might be able to do to restore or repair the finish so that I can regain the normal Cetol shine, continue on and complete application of final coats including Cetol Gloss. I have used Cetol previously and had no issues with application.

I believe I answered this via email, correct? I seem to remember a similar email coming thru my Inbox last week. If not, PM me and I'll call you directly. Thanks.
