Hello,

I am getting ready to re-apply Micron CSC to my boat after around 2 years since the original paint went on.  How should I prep the surface for the new application??   I was thinking of pressure cleaning and lightly sanding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Capt. O

Pressure washing is fine, don't get too aggressive, scrubbing with wet green scotch pads also works well for removing dried slime and dead paint.  After the bottom dries out from your washing or scrubbing methodology go over everything with some 80 sandpaper to smooth things out and get a good overall scratch either by hand or a DA sander.  Not a bad idea to apply a coat of Primocon to seal up the old paint and same time provides a prime coat to any bare hull surfaces before you apply the new CSC.  Don't forget to use a respirator, goggles, gloves and a tyvek suit, protect yourself!

Thanks Boatnut!  I used the Interprotect 2000 HS as a barrier coat last time but noticed a couple of spots where the gelcoat chipped off.  I picked up a quart of Interprotect 2000 E from a local store in order to touch up these spots.  Is it compatible with the original HS??
