Repainting boat deck

   A few years ago, I painted the deck of my fiberglass boat with Petit paint.  The paint did not adhere well and is coming off.  I would like to repaint the deck with Interlux Brightside paint.  I have also purchased your fiberglass surface prep.  I will also be adding Intergrip to the paint to insure a non-slip surface.
Do you have any advice for me on this project?  Sanding? Cleaning? Etc.

	I really want to make every effort possible so that the Brightside adheres well. I have sanded the entire deck with 120 grit using an orbital sander. Then I cleaned it with your Fiberglass Surface Prep using bronze wool. Next I plan to sand it again using 220 grit and a final cleaning with Fiberglass Surface Prep. Then roll on 2 coats of Brightside. Is my surface prep overkill? What method works best using Intergrip - Applying it with a flour sifter right after the first coat? or Mixing it in with the paint? Thanks for the advice.

	Your surface prep looks good. The only thing I would add it two coats of primer (Prekote). I prefer mixing in the Intergrip with Brightside. Due one coat without Intergrip then do 2 additional coats with Intergrip mixed in.

	When I inquired about this project last year, "Jay" did not mention anything about Prekote. His advice was to clean the surface with Fiberglass Surface Prep with bronze wool and then apply the Brightside. Is the Prekote necessary? If that is the best approach, then I will certainly do it. Just making sure. Thanks.

	I always recommend a primer this way you have a even and consistent surface for your finish paint. This way no matter where you look the finish will all be the same. It is not for adhersion it is for apperance. If you feel the current fiberglass is in good condition then you can forgo the primer.

	I'm following your advice. I put on 2 coats of primer followed by a coat of Brightside without the Intergrip added. I just put my first coat of Brightside with the Intergrip and it doesn't look very good. You can see roller marks where the Intergrip seems to be heavier than the surrounding area. I still have to sand with 320 (tomorrow) but I'm not sure if the second coat will look any better. Would a brush be better to more evenly distribute the Intergrip?
