Hi Bill,
When looking to strengthen up a gelcoat surface many applicators will use clear epoxy resins such as West System, System Three, MAS, etc. Eventhough Git-Rot is not one of our products I can't quite see a reason as to why it wouldn't work. Therefore I would recommend that you use either a clear epoxy resin or the Git-Rot to strengthen the deck back up and use that manufacturers direct information on the step by step process. Once the strengthening has been completed, you would then be best to proceed on with your priming and application of the topcoat using the system below:
1. Wash the entire surface with warm water, soap and a stiff brush
2. Sand the surface with 120 grit paper
3. Remove all sanding residue with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202
4. Apply 1 coat of Epoxy Primekote which had been thinned 20-25% by volume with Reducing Solvent 2333N when applying by brush/roller or Reducing Solvent 2316N when applying by spray.
5. Sand the Epoxy Primekote with 220 grit paper
6. Remove all sanding residue with Reducing Solvent 2333N or 2316N
7. Apply 2 coats of either Pefection/Brightside/Interdeck
Hope this helps!

One of the best ways to re-strengthen up a deck or to stiffen up a flex spot would be to use and epoxy which will absorb into the surface and add the strength. As mentioned above, West System, System Three, Mas, Git Rot will all work just fine for your application, therefore that would be the recommended route in which you should go. |
